* Waikerie Riverland Enduro Cancelled *
It is with great sadness that the Waikerie Riverland Off Road Association wish to advise the Off-road community, competitors, spectators, volunteers and sponsors that our 2019 event to be held on the weekend of the 13th and 14 th of July has been cancelled.
Due to the unprecedented drought conditions that we have experienced in our area we have no option but to cancel this year’s event. We were hopeful that the season’s opening rains would be enough to wet the area up and get some green cover back on the track and surrounding areas and consolidate the graded sections of the track. However, to date there has only been 20mm of rain with 15mm in one fall and the rest in several light showers, consequently the area is still dry and barren. There is no significant rain forecast for the next fortnight and the long-term forecast for the next 3 months is for dryer than normal conditions, therefore the club is taking the responsible decision to give the track a rest for the 2019 season. We do not wish to cause further damage to the track and harm our chances of continuing to hold events here in the future.
The club believes that we needed to give all parties at least 4 weeks’ notice of the events cancellation since it is now very apparent that the conditions for the race are unlikely to improve between now and that time, we have made the call now.
It has been 40 continuous years of racing in the Waikerie district without a break so this has been a hard call. We would like to thank our major sponsor the Waikerie Hotel for their ongoing support and we look forward to having them back on board as our major sponsor for The Waikerie Hotel Riverland Enduro in 2020. It is a major loss to the town of Waikerie and especially too many service clubs that use the Enduro as a major fundraiser, but also to the businesses in the town who will miss out on a great week of trading. To the competitors who support our event, thank you for your understanding on this, have great year of racing and supporting the other clubs who put a lot of time and effort into making events possible.
The Waikerie Offroaders look forward to welcoming everyone back next year!
